No squirting for you! Zune "sharing" turns on users

If you're a Zune owner and not yet too depressed to get out of bed, this may be the news that knocks you back under the quilts for good. Remember that kewl "WiFi sharing" feature – "squirting" if you're with Microsoft – that Zune apologists clung to as the last reason to justify a Zune mis-purchase? Looks like that ship is sinking too.

Sony Music and Universal Music Group are setting aside some artists as "prohibited" for sharing. According to reports, we're talking about half of the artists - and there's no telling who can and can't be shared until you try.

Remember: when you buy a Zune, you're already paying a dollar to Universal for the music theft that Universal and Microsoft have decided you're going to be guilty of. Here's what you get in return: you buy a Universal song through the Zune music store, and you find the sharing feature – the thing you intentionally paid for – is turned off.

Sheesh, it almost makes you want to head to the torrents and take back some value for the pirate buck you were forced to spend. I don't recommend that. I recommend this: BOYCOTT ZUNE. (Hey, someone should make a web site!)

Universal and Sony prohibit Zune sharing for certain artists

"It's official: record companies don't like you." Neither does Microsoft. But that part we knew.

Zune users, welcome to the anti-social

"At any rate, it has been revealed that about 40-60 percent of the songs sold through Microsoft's Zune Marketplace will not allow sharing over the Zune's WiFi connection, at the behest of the consumer's best friend, major record labels."

Zune owners, stop being somebody's pawn and cash cow. Say goodbye to this rubbish.

UNIVERSAL and SONY HATE Their Customers! HELP FIGHT THIS!

Here's the oddball take: a "petition" by Zune users to get Sony and Universal to mend their ways. Lots of comments are suggesting a smarter move: DON'T BUY A ZUNE.

The misguided petition is completely missing half the problem: Microsoft is equally a part of the anti-consumer coalition here. Why give $249 to a company that hates you? Microsoft made the Zune for Universal, Sony, the RIAA, and their ilk, not for you. Wake up, Zune owners!

Microsplot is built upon an older site poking fun at the Zune music player. But that wasn't too fun (see details). The whole world of tech is full of wonders, good and bad, and it's more enjoyable to take a crack at any worthy target.
