No Thanksgiving for you, Zune

There's no Thanksgiving in Redmond this year. Unless a new crop of scathing reviews is something to be thankful for (and to be honest, one has to wonder whether that's Microsoft's inexplicable actual wish).

But a lack of Thanksgiving doesn't mean Microsoft hasn't gone and prepared a big brown turkey. Roughly 10 days after the Zune's stillborn arrival, some big-name publications provide the latest report from "the social". Preach it, brethren:

Top Ten Things Wrong With Zune

"It's a hideous car-crash of a product... doomed to become known as the New Coke of failure in the drinks holder of the Edsel of marketing misfires." Zing! Best review ever.

Avoid the loony Zune

"Yes, Microsoft's new Zune digital music player is just plain dreadful. I've spent a week setting this thing up and using it, and the overall experience is about as pleasant as having an airbag deploy in your face." Bang!
But sorry, I can't stop with just that. More: "The Zune is a complete, humiliating failure... The Zune will be dead and gone within six months. Good riddance." Zow!

Microsoft's No-Zune Zone

"...the initial reactions to the Zune are negative enough that they will not only affect the holiday sales, they may also taint the brand for years to come." Biff! But hey, this guy actually thinks the Zune has years ahead; that's the most generous review so far.

Okay guys. Look. I want to see some righteous bashing on Microsoft and its hamfisted wannabe flop. But with the savaging you're dishing out, soon there won't be any Zune owners out there, and then who will I make fun of?

Great site!

Actually boycott not needed. It will auto-boycott by design. It's like they intended for it to crash and burn. Maybe all they want, since they CAN'T COMPETE NORMALLY, and failed in their other efforts, is to poison the market by giving the RIAA companies a kickback on every Zune2Bdead device. It's the biggest software company in the history of the known universe and they can't do any better job with software than this? : "Zune Scene Tech Support". And what is with those weird pictures of people that creep everybody out? The whole thing is a Christmas present to the old white guys running the fat music labels, kick backs, total lockdown DRM even on stuff you make yourself, you can't freely share. Yeah, some "social". Too bad they can't "integrate" Zune into Windows somehow, or force computer manufacturers to included it for free.

Pitiful

People are saying it's new, give it time, etc. What a lame excuse. They've had plenty of time. Five years and more.

So here is MS w/ billions to spend, & iPod/Apple w/ much less resources has been improving hardware, software, content for 5 yrs now, & other MP3 players were out even before that, & have been improving.

MS has ALREADY tried PlaysForSure, MSN Music, & many PlaysForMaybe stores: Rhapsody, Walmart, Yahoo & who knows what else.

This device is NOT new, it is a rebranded Toshiba Gigabeat that has been out for some time. MS had every opportunity & resource to hit a homerun & they failed.

They simply failed, & there is no excuse for it. If they were serious about it, they could have done a more acceptable job.

They are not some 2-bit startup, new to the scene, w/ a few $1000 to invest.

Give it time?? They have had all the time & money in the world already! It must be really hard to just design, build & market a quality product, either that or it takes something that money, half-hearted efforts, & convoluted deals with RIAA companies, won't buy.

Same old same

i guess we'll wait while ms gets halo 3 onto the zune along with word and excel and sell for a loss to get people to buy it. fact is right now it is crap on toast. the question was, is it doa, and i think evidence will show it is. this drop was without a parachute and they slammed hard into the sod. if all people can say is wait til the next version, they promise fixes and features, right, so we should buy today for what ms promises for next time? right.
