You've got company: MS execs bemoan Vista too

Available for your viewing: Dozens of emails by Microsoft execs, lamenting the sorry state of Vista performance and compatibility.

After its release to the paying consumer.

All humor aside, I have sympathy for the folks that bought into Vista! Time for a switch.

Zune.com ceases to exist?

As of today, this is the state of http://www.zune.com :

Hacked? Down for maintenance? Sign of a product about the exit the marketplace? The domain uses MSFT.NET name servers, so appears to be a Microsoft property, but odd that they'd use zune.net for the product site and not zune.com.

Sue Apple?

The Rip Ragged blog lays down some text on some things would-be competitors to Apple should know. There's wisdom in those words:

...a Windows computer is great for rebooting and running all of your cool anti-virus apps... Your Windows machine will also hold down a stack of loose papers next to an open window on a breezy day.

Vista rolls on

Whoa, I've been away from The Complex for quite a while. And out of touch, too – some passing canoe keeps cutting my trans-creek modem line. (Four times now, campers – that's enough!)

Linux has a mascot, Tux the penguin. BSD has one too, that little devil guy thing (named Beastie, wouldn't you know). And come to think of it, Apple has that guy's playtpus cousin Hexley as a mascot, though only reprezentin' the Darwin core of OS X. (In the movie biz, that's like being a walk-in extra, or a Best Grip Boy, or whatever they call that.)

Apple needs a real mascot – one that represents the whole multi-billion-dollar biz. And lucky you – you get to help choose it! (Budding artists looking for exposure: Whip up a picture and send it in!)

A zillion apps for a Mac

A short memo from out On The Road (with regular posts to resume in a couple of days):

If you've got a Mac, you may have been eyeing the MacHeist software deal, which has two days left before the curtain drops. I've got a PowerBook that could use an infusion of some key titles, and I caved in, plunking down my $49.00.
